The La Conner fire station is officially fully owned by the town after the town bought out the half owned by Skagit County Fire District 13.
The town paid the district $563,750.
Town Administrator John Doyle said the town needed additional space for the La Conner Fire Department’s increasing number of volunteer firefighters.
As both the department and fire district grew in staff, Doyle said they could no longer coexist in the space.
Roy Horn, Fire District 13 chief, said the district is determining whether it will need to build a new station to make up for losing the space it shared with the La Conner department.
He said the district used its half of the station mostly to store equipment, and the loss of space won’t significantly impact operations.
