Four people are without a home after a fire destroyed one of three units of a triplex home Tuesday evening. A Yakima Fire Department news release said crews responded to the South 2nd Street home located at the 300 block around 5:10 p.m. to find smoke coming from the roof and the back walls of the once single-family home converted to a triplex. Crews had to cut open the roof to extinguish the fire according to the release. Firefighters said interior walls were also cut open as the fire was traveling from the crawl space to the attic. One unit of the triplex was severely burned through the floor, up the walls and into the attic while the other two units sustained some smoke damage according to reports. Officials said power to the house was cut for safety reasons.
