The Jan. 19 meeting of the North Whatcom fire commissioners needed to be recessed “until order could be restored” after embattled commissioner Dean Berkeley took to the microphone during public session. Berkeley accused district staff members present of lying and he showed “threatening and disruptive behavior” at the Odell Road fire station, according to a resolution of censure against Berkeley passed by commissioners a week later. As part of the Jan. 26 censure, Berkeley is removed from all committees and he no longer may represent North Whatcom Fire & Rescue (Fire District 21) at any meetings. Commission chair Rich Bosman said that Berkeley was not present at the second meeting although being advised of it by email and cell phone message.
