A Wednesday morning fire at Lincoln Elementary School caused the Mount Vernon School District to cancel the school's classes for the day and move all students to Jefferson Elementary School. The fire was reported about 8:45 a.m., about 15 minutes after classes began, when staff discovered what appeared to be an electrical fire in a light fixture in the ceiling of the gym. No children or staff were injured, and school will resume as usual Thursday, district officials said.
