VIDEO: The occupant of an East Valley home that burned Sunday night was home but did not call 911, allowing the fire to spread throughout the residence, according to the first firefighters to arrive on the scene.
“It was fully involved when we got there,” said East Valley Fire Department Lt. Trevor Lenseigne. “That’s kind of out of the ordinary for a structure that big.”
The occupant, who was not injured, did not own the house, Lenseigne said. The man was outside when firefighters arrived. They got the call at 8:59 p.m. after a neighbor dialed 911, Lenseigne said.
He declined to speculate as to why the man hadn’t called but said the fire department has been at the home frequently for emergency calls.
