Upper Valley firefighters quickly encircled a brushfire that broke out Monday evening and led to low-level evacuation notices. The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. along the east side of Chumstick Highway, opposite Sunitsch Canyon. Firefighters from Chelan County Fire District No. 3 and 6 tackled the blaze, while Chelan County sheriff’s deputies issued Level 1 evacuation notices (be prepared, no imminent threat) to homes in a one-mile radius, from Chumstick Highway milepost 3 to milepost 6. The fire spread to cover about two acres of brush and timber as wind pushed it upslope, and aid arrived from Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue, the state Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service.
