Firefighters in Yakima and East Valley were kept busy Thursday afternoon with a pair of fires that heavily damaged two homes.
The earlier fire was at 9 N. 36th Ave. in Yakima. Jaime Ramos said his wife’s parents and his 11-year-old stepson were home when the stepson discovered the fire.
Ramos was at work and his wife was shopping at the time of the fire. Ramos said everyone got out of the house and are unhurt. “Everybody’s good. That’s all that matters,” Ramos said, as he watched firefighters spray water on the house.
Firefighters arrived within minutes after getting the call shortly after 1:40 p.m. and discovered the back of the house on fire, with flames spreading inside the house into the upper story, said Shift Commander Jennifer Norton.
