Crews douse brush fire near Trinidad

A brush fire burned about 50 acres Monday near Basalt Drive Northwest outside of Trinidad. The fire was reported about 10:35 a.m. and went to a second-alarm about 12:10 p.m., but was contained by early afternoon, said Brian Brett, assistant fire chief with Douglas County Fire District 2. Assistant Chief Cam Phillips said about 4 p.m. that the fire was out. It burned in sage and tumbleweed “an extremely steep hillside” between the Columbia River and a railroad
