A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train Friday morning in Kent, officials said.
The deadly accident took place at about 6 a.m. near the Willis Street crossing. The train was heading north toward Everett, carrying a load of big empty tubs, when it struck a man who was on the tracks, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas.
All train service along the route, including the Sounder South Line commuter train, was shut down for about two hours after the accident as police investigated. All service is now back to normal.
The circumstances leading up to the accident remain under investigation. Police say they have no information so far about why the man was on the tracks.
