Suspected arsonist cuffed while trying to hit officers in Mount Vernon

Officers were injured while attempting to arrest a man suspected of setting a building on fire in Mount Vernon Saturday morning. The officers identified the 33-year-old transient as a person of interest while responding to a reported arson in the 100 block of North 15th Street, Lt. Mike Moore with the Mount Vernon Police Department said. The man fled northbound on Riverside Drive as officers tried to contact him in the 900 block of East Fir Street.
