Lacey Fire District 3 firefighters rescued a woman and her dog from a burning house Monday afternoon. The woman suffered burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital. The dog received oxygen, Lacey Battalion Chief Pat Harn said. Lacey police arrived first about 1:20 p.m. Monday after they received a report from a neighbor about a woman in the backyard in some kind of distress, Sgt. Jaime Newcomb said. Officers discovered smoke coming from the house in the 5400 block of Boardwalk Street Southeast and called the Fire Department. They tried to enter the house through an unlocked back door, but thick smoke made it unsafe, Newcomb said.
