A suspicious package found by ferry workers at the Edmonds terminal on the Puyallup delayed travel for hundreds of people for more than three hours on Sunday, April 30.
Washington State Ferries gave the all clear after the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad determined a backpack left on the passenger deck did not contain an explosive device.
“But it was suspicious enough in nature that we had to check it out,” said Trooper Mike Walstad of the state patrol’s Homeland Security Division, K-9 unit. “There was a marine radio that had a weird, modified antenna that was tucked down into a seat.”
WSP spokesman Ian Sterling said the incident began at about 1:30 p.m. The Puyallup had pulled into the dock and all passengers had departed when the suspicious backpack was discovered with what appeared to be wires sticking out of it.
