A fire sparked inside a pile of metal sent a large emergency response to Seattle Iron & Metals Corp. on Sunday. A general fire alarm alerted emergency crews to the flames shortly before 10 a.m., Lieutenant Harold Webb with Seattle Fire said. Firefighters found a pile of metal in the yard on fire, and upgraded the call to a hazardous material response as metal fires can be difficult to extinguish. "It involves metals, and metal is a Class D type fire, and sometimes very hard to put out," Webb said. The fire was quickly knocked out, and the metal pile was slowly picked apart as it smoldered to help ensure it stayed extinguished.
