After months of research, the Clarkston City Council is getting closer to making an "agonizing" decision about the future of the city's fire department. Keeping a fire station staffed around the clock is a budget buster for cities of all sizes, the mayor said, and Clarkston is no exception. That's why many areas, such as neighboring Asotin County and the city of Moscow, rely so heavily on trained volunteers for fire control. But would the Asotin County Fire District model work for the city of Clarkston? Cost estimates on the proposal will be presented to the council in the near future, along with more information about how the system would operate.
