A lawyer representing Skagit County Fire District 1 suggested to district commissioners Thursday several edits to a proposed services contract with the city of Mount Vernon.
Among Richard Davis’ suggestions was to negotiate a lower annual rate with Mount Vernon.
Fire District 1 has no fire station or firefighters of its own, and instead relies on having Mount Vernon provide services.
The last contract between District 1 and Mount Vernon was written in 1980, and included an annual payment of $1,200.
Over the years, the district has also spent an average of $33,000 a year on firefighting equipment. Those contributions are not part of the existing contract.
