The City of Spokane has named Brian Schaeffer the new chief of the Spokane Fire Department.
Schaeffer, who has served as interim chief since Bobby Williams announced his retirement last fall, has been with the fire department since 2005. Before that, he worked for departments in Yakima, Washington and Wright City, Missouri.
Schaeffer will take over the 323-member department, pending confirmation from the City Council, on June 5.
Schaeffer has long served in a public relations role within the department, often serving as the public face of the department.
Chief Schaeffer is has his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Doctorate in Leadership Education from Creighton University.
