Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish an apartment fire Friday evening in the 1200 block of W. 6th Ave. It happened around 6:15 p.m. Heavy fire was showing from the ground floor apartment unit when fire crews arrived on scene. The fire was threatening the upper level living spaces in the old South Hill home that had been converted into apartments. Firefighters were able to quickly get control of the blaze and evacuate all the people inside. No injuries were reported. The fire was contained to one apartment unit. The fire caused significant heat and smoke damage to one apartment unit and smoke damage throughout the rest of the building. Firefighters remained on scene and worked for several hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
