A family of three and four dogs escaped a house fire early Wednesday morning in Deer Park.
Megan Hill, spokeswoman for Spokane County Fire District 4, said first responders showed up to the residence at 29810 N. Short Road to the sound of fire alarms and heavy fire and smoke coming from the back side of the log home. She said the family and their four golden retrievers were already outside as the flames worked their way toward the front of the house.
“Our goal was to keep it where it was,” she said.
About 30 firefighters responded, including some from Stevens County Fire District 1, and were able to contain the blaze. Hill said the home was not a total loss, as fire and smoke did not reach several rooms in the front of the house. The home’s garage was still standing as well.
