Crews raced to battle a Sunday morning fire that broke out at a church in Lacey, emergency officials said.
Firefighters from Lacey Fire District 3 responded to the scene, at Messiah Lutheran Church in the 2700 block of Marvin Road SE in Lacey, after receiving reports of smoke and flames spewing from the roof.
A second alarm was sounded, bring in more fire crews from other mutual aid partners.
In a Twitter posting, the district called it a "very difficult firefight."
The fire was extinguished by mid-afternoon, and investigators were assessing the damage and trying to establish the cause. Initial reports said most of the damage was to the roof of the church.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
