A house fire erupted in Colfax but when fire crews arrived, they were shocked to see the owner of the house was a well-known first responder for the city.
A charred frame is what’s left of most of former Colfax police chief Bill Hickman’s home.
He said he was in the basement when he smelled smoke and immediately called 911.
Colfax fire officials said flames were as high as 15 feet in the air. Most of the house is a complete loss.
The fire started in the garage, then moved into the rest of the home and attic.
“It’s one of the bigger ones,” said Chief Tim Tingley. “Nice part is we saved most of the house, or at least his belongings. The house itself is probably a loss.”
One of Hickman’s close friends, current police chief Rick McNanney is shocked this happened to his decade long friend.
