A Yakima County Fire District that serves the lower valley is getting a safety upgrade.
Fire District 5 will start using a new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus in November to help firefighters safely breathe in the midst of smoke and heat of fires.
The district was able to upgrade equipment that was soon to become obsolete, with grant money that was awarded to them by FEMA Assistance to Firefighters, according to a news release.
The fire district is recognizing committee members, training divisions, the maintenance division and the administration office for their assistance in making this improvement possible.
