A pregnant woman was killed and several other people were hurt in multiple weather-related crashes on Interstate 90 near North Bend on Sunday night.
There were about 20 crashes or spinouts on I-90 along an approximately 15-mile stretch around North Bend after 7 p.m. Sunday, the Washington State Patrol said.
In the fatal accident, a Mitsubishi Galant was heading east at speeds too fast for the conditions when it veered off the freeway, struck the guardrail, plunged about 20 feet down an embankment and crashed, the State Patrol said.
The pregnant woman, later identified as Alyssa S. Helfenstein, 27, of Moses Lake, died at the scene. Her 31-year-old husband, who was driving, and two children, aged 3 and 5, were taken to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries. They are expected to recover.
