Vancouver Fire Department knocked down a fire that displaced 16 families at the Trade Wind Apartments Saturday night. Fire crews were called out about 9 p.m. on reports that two apartments in the eight-unit apartment complex were on fire. Two more units received smoke damage. The fire department said the fire started on the first floor and extended to an apartment on the second floor. Scotty Vest said he was at dinner at his friend's unit on the first floor when a neighbor knocked on their door and window yelling at them that the building was on fire. "We came outside through the entrance and the entire back of the apartment was on fire," said Vest. "Black smoke and 3-foot flames shooting out from the rooftop and all the windows were broken out."
