One person was found dead inside a home that caught fire Tuesday morning west of Cheney. Firefighters were called to 16909 S. Graham Road about 6:40 a.m., said Spokane County Fire District 3 Chief Cody Rohrbach. The location is about one mile east of the Salnave Road exit on Interstate 90. The fire was put out by about 8:30 a.m., but Rohrbach said firefighters would remain on scene for several hours to mop up hotspots before the Spokane County Medical Examiner can collect the remains and perform an autopsy. Multiple Fire District 3 engines were dispatched to the scene. Cheney Fire Department was also present. The home, built in 1912 according to Spokane County Assessor records, sits on a plot of land that is about 20 acres in size. Firefighters said there was no threat of the fire spreading to trees or other structures.
