Yakima County: Camps At Clear Lake Evacuated Because Of Miriam Fire Threat

The Yakima Office of Emergency Management along with Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies and other authorities worked Tuesday to evacuate about 400 hundred kids and employees of summer camps in the Clear Lake area as a growing wildfire near White Pass threatened the area. Three camps at the lake were evacuated Tuesday after the area was put under a Level 3 evacuation notice. The Miriam Fire started Monday about 4 miles southeast of the White Pass Ski area burning 35 to 40 acres. Firefighters continue to battle the lightning caused fire Today. The Naches Valley School District provided buses to transport summer camp children and staff to Naches Valley Elementary and the Yakima YMCA. Tieton Road is closed from Forest Road 1000 in the east to US Highway 12 in the west. US Highway 12 remains open.
