Just this past year, Yakima firefighters have responded to over 65 structure fires, and 43 of those are still under investigation.
Fire officials say there is quite a bit of material that has to be looked through until a cause can be determined for many of those fires. Because of that, many of these fires are still being considered suspicious.
Fire investigators have to look through all kinds of different burn patterns, charring on framing, houses, and cars; anything that may look suspicious adds to their investigation. In some cases investigators are able to easily find a cause, such as electrical failure or equipment failure.
A majority of their investigations take time, and unless they are 100 percent certain, they will not release information on their investigation or a cause.
