As Saturday's wildfires rushed toward homes, the folks living in the fires path had only minutes to grab what they could and escape.
At least two homes are completely destroyed in the Canyon Lakes area, where the evacuation order was eventually lifted so folks could protect their homes from flareups as firefighters attacked it from the rapidly-advancing front line.
The wind blew flames right past some houses, while others are completely destroyed.
University professor Peter Ward said he was relieved to find his girlfriend's house still standing.
"It's just random chance," he said, pointing to the smoldering foundations of the home next door. "Look at that, that one's gone. That one behind, they saved it. This one could have been gone,"
Ward said his girlfriend's family had only minutes to decide what to save as a fast-moving wildfire raced down the hill toward the house.
