For the first time since it broke out on July 28, there is more official containment to report than growth on the Cougar Creek Fire. Firefighters battling the blaze, which is centered about 20 miles northwest of Entiat, took advantage of favorable weather conditions on Tuesday and made significant progress in both suppression and containment efforts. The wildfire’s acreage remains unchanged over the last 24 hours at 31,062, while its official perimeter containment improved by nearly six times that amount to 28 percent. Over 1,200 total personnel are now assigned to the fire who have been working at a feverish pace to restructure containment lines after a windy weekend helped the fire jump many which were already in place, as well as cross the Entiat River and push closer to some homes on Entiat River Road.
