An off-duty Klickitat County firefighter alerted an Outlook family about a fire in their garage Sunday night, according to Yakima County firefighters.
Yakima County Fire District 5 crews were called shortly after 9 p.m. for a fire at 2730 Outlook Road. A Klickitat County firefighter in the area helped the people in the house next to the garage get out safely, according to a fire district news release. Firefighters found the 25-by-30-foot garage fully engulfed, with flames starting to burn the house, the release said. Fifteen firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the detached garage, while limiting the damage to the outside of the house, the release said.
The garage was destroyed, with losses estimated at $60,000, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire is unknown, the release said.
