Spokane Valley Fire Department investigators confirmed Monday morning that someone died in Sunday night's fire. Investigators say it will likely take several days to complete the investigation. Spokane Valley Firefighters battled a 2-alarm fire in a three-story condominium on the 6000 block of E. 6th Avenue, in Spokane Valley Sunday night. By Monday morning, the fire was out, but the building had sustained heavy damage. According to George Hedebeck of the Spokane Valley Fire Department, the initial engine responding to the scene reported flames that were much more than they could handle.
Once the Incident Commander and Battalion Chief showed up, the department moved it to a 2nd alarm. At least 45 firefighters were eventually deployed to contain the fire.
