Emergency responders were dispatched to a Sifton area daycare Thursday morning due to a smell of gas. Firefighters responded to 7715 N.E. 119th Place about 7:55 a.m. for a hazmat investigation. The business listed at the address is Orchards KinderCare. Arriving fire crews reported that they did not smell gas. Utility company NW Natural was called out to investigate the odor and arrived about 8:12 a.m., according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. Firefighters took some of the toddlers who evacuated from the daycare to nearby businesses to get them out of the cold; baby cribs were wheeled out of its entrance, according to the scanner. NW Natural reported that everyone could re-enter the building around 8:24 a.m.
