Spokane Valley firefighters battled wind and flames as they responded to an Otis Orchards house fire Sunday afternoon. At about 2:30 p.m., multiple neighbors called in a structure fire coming from a single-wide mobile home at 4118 North Kennedy Road, where flames and a large plume of smoke could be seen from miles away, said Shawn Pichette, spokesman for the fire department. Arriving engines immediately attacked the fire from outside with hoses as the fire was too large to enter, Pichette said. The home was not occupied. By 4 p.m., firefighters were still mopping up hot spots as heavy wind gusts kept reigniting flammable material. “The wind was blowing so there were a lot of hidden fires,” Pichette said. “Most of the roof collapsed. We had a hard time reaching it.”
