A Longview fire Friday engulfed the 300 block of Beech Street in white smoke and took 30 minutes to extinguish, according to officials.
Longview and Cowlitz 2 firefighters responded to the scene at about 4 p.m. and discovered that a workshop had caught fire and then spread to the house through a broken kitchen window, Battalion Chief Troy Buzalsky said Saturday.
“When the fire burns, it gets hot and breaks windows,” Buzalsky said. “So firefighters had to suppress the fire that was inside the home to conduct the search and make sure there were no occupants.”
Firefighters later determined that the building was vacant. There were no injuries and nobody was displaced.
