Car ends up in Green River after driver loses control

A driver who lost control of his car ended up in the Green River in Kent early Wednesday. Puget Sound Fire and Kent police were called to South 259th Street and Third Avenue South at about 12:30 a.m. after a witness reported seeing a small green car drive off the road and fall into the river, which is about 20 feet below road level. When firefighters arrived, they found a man on the riverbank. He was helped up the bank by firefighters and then evaluated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital. The King County Sheriff’s Office chopper, Guardian One, spotted the submerged car, which still had its lights on, but lost sight of it when the car’s battery failed. The driver police he was the only one in the car, but divers went into the river to check the vehicle to be sure. After about 90 minutes of searching without finding the car, the search was called off until daylight. Police are investigating why the man drove off the road.
