A rescue operation is underway after a Jeep Cherokee crashed through a barrier and plunged into the water at the Washington State Ferries terminal at Anacortes, officials said. At least one person was inside the vehicle. The emergency has forced the ferry system to suspend service between Anacortes and the San Juan Islands for several hours. Trooper Kevin Fortino of the Washington State Patrol said the vehicle drove onto the ferry loading bridge and went through the barrier arm at the end of the ferry dock at about 9:45 a.m. Thursday and plummeted into the water. Skagit County sheriff's officials earlier said they received a call from Anacortes police about a vehicle in the water near the terminal.
