A National Forest fire estimated at six acres in size 12 miles northeast of Leavenworth turned out to be just two acres, and firefighters achieved full containment.
The revised estimate Beaver Creek Fire, reported Tuesday morning in the timberlands of the Wenatchee River Ranger District, was reached using GPS. An initial estimate that put the size at six acres was made by a visual flyover, administrators with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest said Wednesday.
The lightning-sparked fire was combated by 50 firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service and partner agencies. They'll continue reinforcing containment lines and begin mop-up today, using a single helicopter flying from a Fish Lake airstrip.
