A man, a woman and a dog were left homeless after a residential fire in Chimacum whose cause is still under investigation, according to East Jefferson Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Bill Beezley. Beezley informed The Leader his crews received notice of the fire at 2:06 p.m. July 26, and were joined at the scene, in the 100 block of Center Road, just south of the intersection with Highway 19, by fellow responders from Quilcene Fire and Rescue, Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue, the Department of Natural Resources and Engine 91 of Naval Magazine Indian Island. Beezley estimated 1.1 acres burned around the residence, which he described as a recreational vehicle, with “a big supply of tires” falling within that burn radius and contributing to the hazards of the smoke and flames.
