Three Lewis County fire chiefs have scheduled a series of classes intended to teach homeowners how to protect their property in the event of a wildfire. The classes will be conducted by Chehalis Fire Chief Ken Cardinale, Riverside Fire Authority Chief Mike Kytta and Lewis County Fire District 6 Chief Tim Kinder. “The course is based on creating a defensible space of at least 30 feet to 100 feet around any homes or other structures,” Cardinale told The Chronicle in an email. “We will be discussing ways that homeowners can help us help them, by removing combustibles from around their homes.”
