State mobilization was approved overnight for the estimated 2,000-acre wildfire burning about five miles north of Soap Lake.
Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources about 1 a.m. Tuesday at the request of Grant County Fire District 7 Chief Kirk Sheppard. The fire was sparked Monday afternoon, threatening homes, agriculture and power infrastructure in the area. No structures have been reported damaged.
“Firefighters were challenged overnight when the fire quickly grew simultaneously on both the north and south ends,” sheriff’s office officials stated. “Even stretched thin they saved many homes and buildings.”
