Firefighters say a fire that burned over 2,000 acres in Grant County is now 100 percent contained Thursday morning. The Soap Lake Fire burned 2,063 acres and destroyed one small outbuilding, according to an update from Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Sevigney. No people were harmed and no homes were affected from this fire. According to reports, the blaze started June 11 at 4:30 p.m. along State Route 17, a few miles north of Soap Lake. Firefighters with Grant County Fire District 7 responded and requested help from surrounding agencies as flames were quickly spreading due to strong winds. Fire crews prevented flames from reaching any nearby homes and many buildings. Roughly 50 people living in the area were ordered to evacuate or be ready to evacuate their homes. Evacuations were lifted Wednesday.
