To honor a local firefighter’s death you will see lots of fire engines in Bellingham Saturday morning. North Whatcom Fire & Rescue announced they will have a procession of fire department vehicles from Blaine to Bellingham before the memorial service for John Swobody. They leave their station in Blaine at 8:00 A.M. and will arrive at Christ the King Church in Cordata about an hour later. At 10:00 A.M., the memorial service, open to the public, will begin. John Swobody lost a battle with cancer on June 4th. His illness was determined to have been caused by his profession, making him the first North Whatcom firefighter to die in the line of duty.
