City and fire department officials are considering whether to start providing basic life support ambulance transports.
College Place is the biggest user of the Walla Walla Fire Department’s ambulance services outside of Walla Walla, with about 900 ambulance runs a year to College Place, and it costs the Walla Walla Fire Department $70,344, Chief Bob Yancey said.
In fact, College Place does not provide its own ambulance services and can’t without additional staff, Fire Chief David Winter said. Instead the city relies on the Walla Walla fire department for all transports to local medical centers. The city of College Place is now exploring its options and hired a consultant firm, FCS Group of Redmond, Wash., to assist.
