Thousands of chickens were killed Monday evening in Thurston County after a chicken house caught fire at Draper Valley Farms near Tenino, a spokesman for the Mount Vernon-based company said Tuesday. Thurston County Fire District 12 and other fire department crews were dispatched about 5:15 p.m. Monday to the farm in the 16000 block of Gibson Road Southwest. Spokesman Joe Forsthoffer said about 25,000 month-old chickens were lost in the blaze. The fire destroyed one chicken house, but firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading, he said.
