Authorities are investigating three fires that started on Sunday morning along North 6thAvenue in Yakima.
Around 6 a.m. fire crews arrived to the Mariscos El Nayarit restaurant where a fire had started in the back of the alley and spread to the attic of the restaurant. A few blocks from the restaurant, an abandoned house on the corner of North 6th Avenue and West I Street had also caught fire.
Another abandoned house on the 700 block of North 6th Avenue was also on fire.
Acting Chief Commander, Don Wolterstorff said officials believe an arsonist is to blame for the fires.
“This has been an ongoing problem in this neighborhood for some time,” said Wolterstorff. “The two abandoned houses are a complete loss and the restaurant’s estimating loss is between $20,000 to $30,000.”
