A Yakima family was displaced after a Thursday kitchen fire that caused some $45,000 in damage to their home and its contents. The fire at 43 W. Pierce St. was reported just before 2:30 p.m. Nearly 20 firefighters extinguished a fire in the kitchen within 20 minutes, despite thick smoke, according to a Yakima Fire Department news release. Crews also rescued the family’s cat, who was not burned, but was exposed to smoke for about 20 minutes, according to the release.
