A Yakima family was displaced after a Thursday kitchen fire that caused some $45,000 in damage to their home and its contents.
The fire at 43 W. Pierce St. was reported just before 2:30 p.m.
Nearly 20 firefighters extinguished a fire in the kitchen within 20 minutes, despite thick smoke, according to a Yakima Fire Department news release. Crews also rescued the family’s cat, who was not burned, but was exposed to smoke for about 20 minutes, according to the release.
Firefighters took about an hour and a half cleaning up, clearing smoke and investigating the cause, according to the release.
