Firefighters say an 89-year-old man has lost his house in Prosser due to a fire. Benton County sheriff's deputies and firefighters were called the the home just before 1 p.m., Monday. Reports said the 89-year-old homeowner discovered smoke and flames coming from the enclosed porch of the house. He tried to put out the blaze but fire quickly reached the attic and flames spread throughout the house. Firefighters said the man was able to get out of the house as fire crews arrived to extinguish the flames. Reports said no one else was inside the house and no injuries have been reported in this fire. Crews remained at the scene to assess the damage and said the house was a total loss. At this time it is not known what caused this fire to start. Fire officials are investigating.
