The Northwest region's incident management teams are getting ready for fire season. 10 teams from Alaska,Oregon and Washington all joined the annual pre-wildfire season meeting in Yakima. It gives responders a chance to review what they can expect in the season ahead and prepare what they need. In 2017 the teams responded 35 times and this year they hope it's more controllable. “We know that our greatest strengths is one when we are prepared and that we are lining up our fire equipment early and propositioning in those areas that we know are going to be hit by fire,” said Hilary Franz, Commissioner of Public Lands. This year DNR predicts an average type fire season similar to 2017. In Yakima they are preparing for an above average risk of elevated fire seasons, that means more fires and acres burned.
