Extricating someone from a car. Breaking down a door. Performing CPR. Those are just some of the tasks that firefighters have to be prepared for, beyond just fighting fires.
People from all over the state of Washington got the chance on Friday to spend a day as a firefighter experiencing all the different scenarios these men and women have to be prepared for.
Fire Ops 101 was held at the Hammer Training Facility in Richland. City leaders and members of the media experienced six real-life fire training exercises first-hand.
“This allows people...to come in and actually see what we do, why we need the equipment we need, the staffing we need, station location. Everything’s important," said Lieut. Mike Simmons with the Olympia Fire Department.
