After waking up to sounds of breaking glass and the sight of flames, a mother and her two children escaped their home safely in Renton late Tuesday night. Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 18400 block of 107th Court SE, at about 11:15 p.m. after receiving a 911 call. The mother and the two children, aged 5 and 8, were outside the home when crews arrived. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, but the front of the house was damaged by fire and the interior of the entire home was damaged by smoke. An investigation found that the blaze was started by the mother smoking outside and discarding a cigarette in a bin on the front porch. From there the flames spread to the front of the house, according to the Renton Regional Fire Authority.
