Numerous fire were set early Tuesday morning at the construction site where a new youth jail is being built in Seattle. Arson detectives are investigating at the construction site in the 1300 block of East Remington Court. The new juvenile detention center has been the subject of numerous protests in the last several months by demonstrators who oppose the jailing of any young offenders. The facility is expected to open in the fall of 2019. Police say an officer who was working security at the construction site heard sounds inside the site's fence line just after 3:30 a.m. He found multiple small fires and what looked like shattered glass bottles, police said. The officer put fires out with an extinguisher. He spotted one more fire on top of an office trailer. Other officers who arrived put that fire out.
